General FAQs

Q Does the CB31U supply term power to SCSI bus.
No. The CB31U doesn't supply term power to SCSI bus.
Q What is term power?
Term power is the power to activate terminator.
According to SCSI specification, at least one device on the SCSI bus must supply term power.
Q What happens if there is no terminator or no term power?
Data transfer on the SCSI bus will be unstable.
Q What is the SCSI ID of the CB31U?
ID 7 is reserved for the CB31U.

Trouble Shooting

Q The system freezes, if FUJITSU MO drive(FMPD-231, M2512A, M2513A) is connected to the CB31U.
Change transfer speed with the Configuration Utility as follows.

Start the system with the CB31U without connecting the FUJITSU MO drive.
Launch the Configuration Utility.
Change Transfer Speed at the SCSI ID of the MO drive to 10MB/s.
Click OK and shutdown the system.
Connect the MO drive to the CB31U, turn on the drive and start up the system.

Windows Xp / 2000

Q Scanner is not recognized by scanning software. On the device manager, the scanner is recognized by the system.
Some scanning software requires 32 bit ASPI manager. If it is not installed, install RATOC's WNASPI32.DLL.
Q CD-R(W) Writing software doens't work, if RATOC WNASPI32.DLL is installed.
RATOC WNASPI32.DLL supports only scanner device. Uninstall RATOC WNASPI32.DLL and install the WNASPI32.DLL which comes with the CD-R(W) Writing software.

You can uninstall RATOC WNASPI32.DLL form
[Control Panel]-[Add or Remove Programs].
Q MO media is not formatted properly on Windows 2000.
That is because Windows 2000 doesn't support super FD format. Use RATOC format utility which is included in the CB31U software CD-ROM.

Windows 98

Q Windows 98 will not shut down properly, if PC card is inserted.
It occurs, if built-in USB controller is enabled and no USB device is connected.

There is a workaround as follows:
Change I/O port resource of USB controller to 1600 or higher manually.

Start the system without PC card.
Open device manager. (Control Panel - System - Device Manager]
Double click on [Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Univeral Contorller] under [Universal serial bus controller].
Click on Resources and uncheck [Use automatic setting].
Change IO Range to 1600 or higher.
After changing the setting, restart the system to take effect.

Windows 95

Q System will not start, if a PC Card Modem is inserted with the CB31U.
If IRQ4 is assigned to the built-in serial port, this problem occurs.

There is a workaround as follows:

* Disable built-in serial port on BIOS setting.
* If IRQ resource is changeable on BIOS setting, change the IRQ to beside 4.
Regarding BIOS settigns, refer to use's manual of the computer.

Q How to install cardBus point enabler and aspi manager?
